PVC Conveyor Belts vs Rubber Conveyor Belts

PVC belts use thermoplastic polyvinyl chloride covers (often lightweight and dimensionally stable) suited to warehousing, baggage, parcel sortation, food processing with approved grades, and many indoor/light industrial lines. Rubber conveyor belts use compounded elastomers plus textile or steel carcasses—the usual choice when impact, abrasion, wide temperature swings, heavy tension, or fire-resistant mine specs apply.

Conveyor systems in factories and logistics

PVC belt highlights

  • Often economical for unit goods and moderate loads; wipes down easily where hygiene permits.
  • Good thickness control and splice predictability when using adhesives suited to PVC.
  • Watch chemical compatibility—some solvents, oils, and UV exposure can degrade cover or stiffen belts faster than formulated rubber grades.

Rubber belt highlights

  • Compound families address abrasion, ozone, flame resistance (regional standards), oils, acids, cold, etc.
  • Generally preferred for coarse bulk, mining, aggregates, cement, ports, steel, and harsh outdoor exposures.
  • Price and lifecycle cost depend on thickness, cords, splice method, and maintenance—not a binary “cheap vs premium.”

Selecting responsibly

Match tensile demands, shortest pulley diameter, temperature range, and regulatory requirements first; then negotiate price. Always operate within OEM tension and guarding rules.
